With the gain control, you adjust the desired amount of overdrive, while using the level knob to match the effect signal to your clean true bypass guitar signal. Just like those classic USA Blackface style amps, you can adjust the bass and treble to your liking with the dedicated potentiometers. To set the level of saturation you desire for use with your own guitar amplifier, use the trim pot next to the adapter connector. This pedal is inspired by a custom-built boutique pedal from Tokyo, but is still quite a bit more affordable for the budget-conscious guitarist.
