This is the best-selling string set for electric guitar, and for good reason! The Ernie Ball 2221 Regular Slinky is a set of six strings that produces an extremely balanced sound with more than enough output. The genre doesn't really matter; this set shines in any genre. Dozens of world-famous guitarists eagerly use Slinkys, and you've probably heard countless hit songs played on Slinkys without even realizing it. The wound strings are made of nickel-plated steel wrapped around a hexagonal steel core. The plain strings are made of specially tempered tinned carbon steel.

Mr. Ball noticed in the 1960s that many (beginning) guitarists struggled with the best-selling strings of the time. He presented this idea to a major guitar company, but they didn't see the potential. Fortunately, Ernie Ball managed to convince another string manufacturer, who then sold Ernie's strings in his own shop. It quickly became a huge success, and even The Beach Boys and The Ventures became customers.
